Beginner’s Guide: How to Debloat Your Global Xiaomi Phone (Safe & Easy)

What is Bloatware? Why Should You Remove It?

When you buy a Xiaomi phone, especially a global version (sold outside China), it comes with a lot of pre-installed apps — some from Xiaomi and some from partners (like Facebook, TikTok, or Booking.com).

These apps:

  • Take up storage
  • Run in the background (using battery & data)
  • Sometimes show ads or send notifications you don’t need
  • Debloating = Removing or disabling these unnecessary apps to make your phone faster, cleaner, and more private.

Important: No Root Needed

This guide works without root, so your phone stays safe and you keep your warranty. We’ll use a simple Windows program to clean up the phone.

Step 1: Prepare Your Computer & Phone

What You Need:

  • A Windows PC or laptop
  • Your Xiaomi phone
  • A good USB-C cable

Step 2: Enable Developer Options & USB Debugging

  1. On your phone, open Settings.
  2. Go to About Phone.
  3. Tap on HyperOS/MIUI Version 7 times until you see “You are now a developer”.
  4. Go back to Settings > Additional settings > Developer options.
  5. Find and turn on USB debugging.

Step 3: Download Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools

This is the easiest and safest debloat tool for beginners.

It’s a .jar file so you will need to download and install Java.

Step 4: Connect Your Phone to Your PC

  • Plug your phone into your PC with the USB cable.
  • When your phone asks “Allow USB Debugging?” tap Allow.

Step 5: Open Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools

  • Launch the program on your PC.
  • It will automatically detect your phone.
  • If your phone is connected properly, you will see a list of apps installed on your phone.

Step 6: Safe Debloating — What to Remove?

It’s safe to remove:

CategoryExamples
Social Media PreinstallsFacebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc.
Advertising ServicesMSA (MIUI System Ads), Analytics
Mi Browser & Mi VideoYou can use Chrome/YouTube instead
Partner AppsGoogle One, Booking.com, Agoda, etc.

⚠️ Do NOT remove core apps like:

  • System UI or MIUI Home (this controls your launcher and status bar)
  • Security (needed for updates)
  • Camera (obviously)
  • Phone and Messages

Step 7: One-Click Uninstall

  • Tick the box for each app you want to remove.
  • Click Uninstall.
  • Done! The app is gone.

Step 8 (Optional): Disable System Ads

Even after debloating, Xiaomi phones show ads in some system apps. You can turn off ads manually in these places:

  1. Settings > Passwords & security > Authorization & revocation
    • Revoke MSA (this is the ad service).
  2. Mi Security App > Settings > Recommendations – Turn it off.
  3. Mi File Manager > Settings > About > Recommendations – Turn off.

Bonus Tip: Install a New Launcher

If you want to completely avoid Xiaomi’s launcher ads, install a cleaner one like:

  • Nova Launcher (clean and customizable)

Final Result — A Clean, Fast Xiaomi Phone!

After following this guide, your phone will:

✅ Have more free storage
✅ Run faster
✅ Have fewer background apps draining battery
✅ Be more private with less tracking
